Starfish Studio was opened in May 2009.
The building was previously in a semi derelict state,
having been used for storage for many years and with no electricity or water supply.

The building before any work started.
We think the studio area was once used for drying fishing nets - probably belonging
to the family that would have lived in the two small rooms above, accessed only by an external stone stair.
There is evidence that the building was already in existence in 1804.
Before that it would appear that the ground occupied by the building was a courtyard covered in red bricks.
The studio finished.
The studio as seen from the harbour.
For the owner, Kate MacKenzie, Starfish Studio is the fulfilment of a 15 year dream to have her own shop selling beautiful things -
the kind of things that she likes to buy and enjoy herself.
Kate is an artist working mostly in acrylics and the studio has given her somewhere other than the kitchen table on which to work!
Kate enjoys working in various other crafts too, many of which can be seen in the studio.
